Math Rock Symmetry

In my typography class at Winthrop University, we were tasked with using various types of symmetry to create images based on an assigned genre of music using 4 unique characters. My genre was Math Rock, whose defining traits are that it incorporates various time signatures into each song and creates almost mathematical equations within the music. I have a southwestern background, so I based my pattern design on the shattered tile mosaic style that is very prominent in that region. The metronomes in the tile mosaic pattern symbolize a shattering of the timescale and reconstruction into the formation of the music. The characters used symbolize the main elements of the time signatures used, with a mild exception of an E taking up the location of the 4 since it was the closest character to my original designs and we needed to incorporate a letter as well. The first layout is an example of radial symmetry, as the forms of the letters all emanate from the center of the layout, the second layout is an example of a perceived object carrying through the images throughout the layout, the third layout is an example of crystallographic symmetry, and the fourth layout is an example of horizontal inverted near-symmetry.
